The River Murray International Dark Sky Reserve is Australia's first Dark Sky Reserve and one of only 21 is the world. It covers more than 3,200 square kilometres from Bow Hill to Blanchetown on the River Murray and west to the foothills of the Mt. Lofty Ranges.

Australia, due to its large land area and small population is endowed with minimal Light Pollution and consequently very dark skies.
